How do you believe EX-AQUA will shape the future of marine algae aquaculture in the Black Sea region?

How does EX-AQUA facilitate innovation and collaboration within the EU marine sector, and what new practices or technologies are you most excited about?
“EX-AQUA drives innovation by transferring knowledge from top Western institutions to the Black Sea region, fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and public-private organizations. Tailored to the Black Sea’s unique environment, the project promotes sustainable aquaculture practices, aligning with the EU’s Green Deal goals. This approach not only reduces regional disparities but also positions the Black Sea as a key player in marine aquaculture. Exciting advancements include cutting-edge aquaculture technologies and eco-friendly practices that enhance sustainability and economic growth while preserving marine biodiversity.”
In your view, what makes EX-AQUA a timely and necessary project in today’s environmental context?
“The EX-AQUA project is timely and essential in addressing today’s environmental challenges, in the Black Sea region. By transferring knowledge, EX-AQUA strengthens sustainable aquaculture practices tailored to the Black Sea’s unique ecosystem. This approach aligns with the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy, fostering balanced stakeholder representation and equipping the region with innovative solutions to enhance environmental resilience, economic viability, and food security in a rapidly changing world.”
From BISAC’s perspective, what is the most significant aspect of the EX-AQUA project?
“The most significant aspect of the EX-AQUA project for the Black Sea Advisory Council consists of its transformative potential to enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of the Black Sea fisheries and aquaculture sector. This initiative not only strengthens the local value chain but also creates new jobs and market opportunities, aligning perfectly with our mission to balance stakeholder interests and advance the Common Fisheries Policy’s objectives in the Black Sea region.”
