EX-AQUA Summer School

The National Institute for Marine Research and Development “Grigore Antipa” Constanța is pleased to announce the organization of the EX-AQUA Summer School on Microalgae and Macroalgae Aquaculture.

The Summer School will take place from 14 to 18 September 2026 at the premises of the institute (Mamaia Boulevard 300, Constanța 900581, Romania)and will include both theoretical sessions and hands-on practical activities, offering participants the opportunity to become familiar with key concepts, methods and applications related to algae cultivation for scientific, technological and economic purposes.

The topics covered will include:

  • introduction to microalgae and macroalgae aquaculture;
  • methods for isolation, cultivation and maintenance of algal cultures;
  • laboratory and pilot-scale cultivation systems;
  • environmental parameters influencing algal growth;
  • applications of algal biomass in the bioeconomy, aquaculture, and biotechnology;
  • applied and theoretical perspectives on macroalgae restoration.
  • practical activities related to culture media preparation, microscopic observation and culture monitoring;
  • perspectives for the development of algae aquaculture in Romania and the Black Sea region.

The Summer School is primarily addressed to students, master’s students, PhD students, and Early-Stage Researchers. Researchers and specialists interested in aquaculture, marine biology, biotechnology, environmental protection and the blue economy are also welcomed to register.

Through this activity, the EX-AQUA project aims to strengthen scientific and technical capacity in the field of algae aquaculture, support knowledge transfer and stimulate interest in the development of innovative solutions based on the sustainable use of algal resources.

Registrations are open until 15 August 2026 and participation is free of charge.
